ASSAM Security and Strategy Specialist Ersan Ergür commentated to Akit Newspaper why Turkey should send soldiers to Libya. Ergür said; “If Turkey goes to Libya, it will strengthen the dialogue between the Muslim groups and tribes in the region and contribute to the cessation of the war. Turkey does not go there to fight and shed blood. Turkey is going there to protect the UN-recognised government from terrorist attacks. Turkey is going to there to contribute to the training of the soldiers in the region. The USA, France, England and Italy, which recognize the legitimate government, also have relations with Haftar's forces. They both recognize the legitimate government and establish relations with Haftar. Today, almost all of Libya's resources are under the control of Haftar's forces. These countries cause conflict between the two regimes in the region and benefit from oil revenues. In order to prevent this, Turkey has to go to the region for the equitable evaluation of resources. Opposition parties act in line with the interests of the West, not in line with local and national interests, as always. In addition, Turkey has never forgotten the support it got from Libya during the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation. As a sign of loyalty, we should not leave the Libyan people alone during these difficult days. While Turkey pays this debt of loyalty, it will also ensure the peace and security of the Libyan people.”
